			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If one defines something twenty years or older as &#8216;vintage,&#8217; then <a href="http://www.thesimpsons.com/index.html"><em>The Simpsons</em></a> now qualify! The half-hour show has been on the air for twenty years!<br />
(Note: <em>The Simpsons</em> appeared as a series of one-minute vignettes during <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tracey_Ullman_Show"><em>The Tracy Ullmann Show</em></a> three years before given their own show).<br />

Here&#8217;s an interesting cover story from December 1989. That&#8217;s one month before <em>The Simpson</em>s premiered in January 1990. This is a copy of the magazine <a href="http://motherjones.com/"><em>Mother Jones</em></a>.<br />
The article raises the questions whether or not prime time is ready for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Groening">Matt Groening</a>&#8216;s (Simpsons creator) subversive humor.<br />
And that the <a href="http://www.fox.com/">Fox network</a> was taking a chance airing <em>The Simpsons</em> because:<br />
1) it was a cartoon and<br />
2) Groening was regarded as an &#8220;alternative cartoonist, definately not mainstream.&#8221;<br />
Well, twenty years later <em>The Simpsons</em> are not only mainstream, they&#8217;re an institution.<br />
