Lionel trains were invented by Joshua Lionel Cowen in 1900, but they weren’t designed as toys.
Instead, they were meant to be used as props in window displays!
Shoppers loved what they saw in the windows and kept asking shop owners if they could buy they display trains.
It didn’t take long for Lionel to jump on the idea and begin toy trains for consumers.
The images displayed here are from my own Lionel Train Set.
It’s the Midnight Flyer Series and I received it for Christmas in 1979.

i was wondering what the value of this train set is worth i have the whole set and tracks and it all works i do not have the box thank you for your time dan # if you would want to talk live 1-781-293-6284 in mass.
Hi Dan -
Very cool to know you have the whole train set. Sadly, I only have bits and pieces.
Unfortunately, I don’t know the value of the set. I would suggest checking eBay on occasion and look at their completed listings.
Definitely having the whole set increases the value, but a lot does depend on condition and demand.
Good luck as you search and feel free to come back and let us know what you find!
