I still remember the first time I saw this 1964 French film.
It was a warm summer night and the movie was playing at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
As soon as the opening credits began, I was mesmerized.
I loved the movie so much, I went back a few days later and brought my mom and sister along.
Since then, I’ve seen The Umbrellas of Cherbourg numerous times (albeit on DVD, not in the theater).
I fall under its technicolor spell every time.
It was directed by Jacques Demy and stars Catherine Deneuve in her debut role.
Here’s the opening credits.
I hope you get the idea of how beautiful this film is to watch and listen to.
