…Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica.
Veronica Yvette “Ronnie” Spector, sister Estelle Bennet, and cousin Nedra Talley were the fabulous Ronettes!
What’s so remarkable about this album upon its release in 1964 is the impact it had on pop production AND how low it charted. That’s right – how low it charted!! It only peaked at #96 on the album chart.
The songs on this classic record were produced by Phil Spector. He said he wanted to create “little symphonies for the kiddies.” His production techniques were known as the “wall of sound” and they were truly revolutionary. Just listen to a song like “Be My Baby.” There are castanets, maracas, and strings. Layers of sound and echo. Treating pop tunes in this rich and complex way was totally unheard of at the time. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys certainly took note.
It’s amazing to think that for such an important album it still hasn’t been released on CD. So, its rarity makes vinyl copies highly sought after among record among collectors. If you find one — buy it!!
