Doo-lang, doo-lang, doo-lang is one of the greatest backing vocal hooks of all time!
The story goes that the hook was thought up by sound engineer Johnny Cue. The backing band were members of the doo wop group The Tokens (remember ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and the wing-a’wack backing vocal? Another great hook).
Anyway, this pop tune was rejected by some of the major record labels of the day, including Capitol for whom The Tokens worked for. In the end Laurie Records released it in December 1962 and the Chiffons hit the top of the charts two months later — doo lang!
